Licensed Social Worker and Juris Doctor

Heather K. Martin is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) with experience providing compassionate, client-centered, and trauma-informed therapy to adolescents, adults, seniors, and couples from diverse backgrounds. Heather works with individuals experiencing a wide range of emotional, behavioral, relational, and life challenges and is committed to creating a therapeutic environment where clients feel heard, respected, and supported as they work toward meaningful change.

Heather earned her Master of Social Work, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Monmouth University, and became a Licensed Social Worker in the State of New Jersey in 2024. She also holds a Juris Doctor from Rutgers University School of Law and is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and the District of Columbia. Additionally, Heather earned a Master of Science in Criminology, Summa Cum Laude, from Saint Joseph’s University and a Bachelor of Science in Criminology, Cum Laude, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her extensive educational background in social work, law, and criminology provides her with a distinctive perspective on the complex emotional, relational, family, and systemic issues that can affect an individual’s well-being.

Heather has experience working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and bereavement, trauma and adverse life experiences, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), eating disorders, mood disorders, stress, significant life transitions, and other mental health concerns. She has also worked with individuals experiencing more complex mental health challenges and recognizes the importance of tailoring treatment to each client’s unique circumstances, strengths, needs, and goals.

Heather utilizes an integrative therapeutic approach that combines traditional talk therapy with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness practices, and trauma-informed care. She believes that effective therapy begins with developing a meaningful therapeutic relationship and providing clients with a compassionate and nonjudgmental space to explore their experiences, better understand patterns in their thoughts and emotions, and develop healthier ways of navigating life’s challenges.

In addition to her traditional mental health work, Heather has specialized experience addressing complex family and relationship concerns. Drawing upon her extensive professional background in family law, her clinical areas of focus include co-parenting therapy, custody and parenting-time mediation, co-parenting coordination, reunification therapy, and anger management. This combination of clinical and professional experience provides Heather with a unique understanding of the emotional and relational complexities that can accompany separation, divorce, custody concerns, co-parenting difficulties, and changing family dynamics.

Prior to entering the mental health field, Heather practiced law extensively, including serving as a Senior Attorney in family law. Her experience included working with individuals navigating divorce, custody and parenting-time matters, domestic violence concerns, adoption, and other complex family-related legal circumstances. She also served as a certified court mediator in family law matters. While psychotherapy and legal representation are distinct professional roles, Heather’s extensive background provides her with a deep appreciation for the emotional impact that family conflict, separation, and significant transitions can have on individuals, couples, parents, and children.

Heather’s therapeutic philosophy emphasizes empathy, collaboration, critical thinking, and respect for each client’s individual experiences. She recognizes that seeking therapy often requires vulnerability and strives to provide a supportive environment where clients can explore difficult emotions without judgment. Her goal is to help clients strengthen self-awareness, develop practical coping strategies, improve communication, navigate challenging relationships and transitions, and feel increasingly confident in their ability to manage the circumstances they face.

Heather also values a holistic approach to mental health care and recognizes that emotional well-being can be influenced by relationships, family dynamics, past experiences, environmental stressors, and broader life circumstances. She works collaboratively with clients to identify the areas of their lives that may be contributing to distress while building upon existing strengths and developing strategies that support greater emotional stability, resilience, and personal growth.

Heather is a clinician with Monarch Counseling Center, where she provides therapeutic services to individuals and couples. She is committed to providing compassionate, ethical, and individualized care while helping clients navigate mental health concerns, relationship and family challenges, significant life transitions, and other difficult experiences. Through a supportive and collaborative therapeutic relationship, Heather strives to help her clients feel empowered to create meaningful and sustainable changes in their lives.
