Licensed Associate Counselor
Euclides Mateo is a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC), Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC), and Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) with extensive experience providing mental health, substance use, and behavioral health services to children, adolescents, adults, and families. His diverse clinical background allows him to support individuals experiencing a wide range of emotional, behavioral, relational, and substance use concerns while providing compassionate and individualized care.
Euclides earned his Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Felician College and completed specialized Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor training through the New Jersey Prevention Network. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from New Jersey City University and an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Hudson County Community College. His multidisciplinary educational background contributes to his ability to understand clients from developmental, psychological, behavioral, and social perspectives.
Throughout his career, Euclides has worked across outpatient, community-based, school-based, in-home, and substance use treatment settings. His clinical experience includes providing individual, group, and family counseling, conducting comprehensive assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, providing crisis intervention, and helping clients develop healthier coping strategies and behavioral patterns. He has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, adults, and families experiencing mental health, behavioral, substance use, and life challenges.
Euclides utilizes an integrative therapeutic approach that incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic approaches, Motivational Interviewing, psychotherapy, and other evidence-based interventions based on each client’s individual needs and treatment goals. His approach emphasizes creating a supportive and collaborative therapeutic relationship while helping clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and experiences.
Euclides has significant experience working with individuals affected by substance use disorders and addiction. His background includes providing individual and group counseling, psychoeducation, biopsychosocial assessments, treatment planning, relapse prevention support, crisis intervention, discharge planning, and connections to community resources. He has also collaborated with multidisciplinary treatment teams and community systems to help individuals address the many areas of life that can be affected by substance use and recovery.
In addition to his work with adults, Euclides has extensive experience supporting children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. His background includes providing in-home and community-based behavioral interventions, individual and family counseling, parent support, crisis services, mentoring, and assistance with behavioral, emotional, and social concerns. He recognizes the importance of understanding each young person within the context of their family, environment, relationships, and developmental needs.
Euclides also brings a strong understanding of recovery-oriented care to his clinical work. Through his experience in peer recovery and behavioral health services, he has helped individuals identify their strengths, establish meaningful recovery goals, connect with community resources, and address barriers involving housing, employment, healthcare, relationships, legal concerns, and other areas that may impact long-term stability and wellness.
Central to Euclides’ therapeutic philosophy is the belief that treatment should be individualized, compassionate, culturally responsive, and grounded in each client’s unique strengths and experiences. He strives to create a safe and nonjudgmental environment where clients can openly explore challenges, develop practical coping and communication skills, strengthen resilience, and work toward meaningful and sustainable change.
Euclides is fluent in both English and Spanish and is able to provide culturally responsive support to individuals and families from diverse backgrounds. His bilingual abilities, combined with his extensive experience in mental health, substance use treatment, family services, and community-based care, allow him to connect with and support a broad range of clients.
Euclides has been a clinician with Monarch Counseling Center since October 2024, where he provides individual, group, and family therapeutic services. He is committed to helping clients feel understood and empowered while supporting them in strengthening their emotional well-being, navigating life’s challenges, improving relationships, and working toward their personal goals.
